Could Darvish Divorce Delay His MLB Aspirations?

By Chuck Johnson ~ November 23rd, 2011. Filed under: Digest Contributors, Japanese Baseball, New York Yankees.

I’m hearing Yu Darvish likely won’t be posted because of his ongoing divorce proceedings. Apparently, his soon to be ex-wife’s lawyer wants to make sure his MLB salary is counted towards her settlement, and has already filed two depositions delaying their court appearance. Obviously, Darvish and his agent don’t want to post until the divorce is final.

Mike Silva adds:

We have been discussing Yu Darvish this offseason as a possible option for the Yankees rotation. Back on November 7th I polled NYBD readers about what direction they would like to see Brian Cashman take with the rotation this offseason. As of this writing, 48% want to see the Yankees make Darvish their primary target. It appears this divorce situation could put off Darvish’s MLB aspirations.

MLB’s Anthony Castrovince reported that “the two were married in 2007 in what the Japanese press has called a ‘shotgun wedding,’ and Saeko’s (Yu’s wife) unbridled attitude and dress has reportedly clashed with the conservative viewpoints of Yu’s Iranian father, Farsad.

Earlier this week Farsad Darvish  said it was “50-50″ whether his son would be posted.

Right now, it appears Darvish as an option is very much up in the air… stay tuned.

If you like to hear Patrick Newman of NPB Tracker discuss Yu Darvish and provide a scouting report you can download his appearance on my radio show here.

Yeah, pretty amazing how a “small blog” can have so much information, huh?

I can’t speak for Frank or Joe, but I’ve personally never read Keith Law’s column.
