Lincecum Speculation “Laughable”

By Frank Russo ~ November 6th, 2011. Filed under: Digest Contributors.

There has been a lot of talk over the past few days in regards to the Yankees possibly making a play for Giants ace Tim Lincecum.

I decided to contact a very good friend of mine, a high level executive in the Giants organization, and asked him if there was any chance that Lincecum could or would be moved this off-season, particularly to the Yankees. His response was that the Lincecum rumors were a “winter malaise equal to that of mental stimulation,” and that the Giants “are not inclined to move our franchise pitcher any time soon, no matter what some of these writers are saying.”

These were exactly the comments that I expected to hear. The Giants believe in the old baseball adage that “pitching wins championships.” It’s a core belief system that is based not just on developing, but also retaining long term, high end starting pitching. There is no reason to believe that Giants Senior Vice President and General Manager Brian Sabean is going to start diverting from that model now.

I also reached out to someone in the Yankees organization who called the Lincecum rumors “laughable”. He also stated that, in his opinion, Lincecum was worth a minimum of five players to the Giants. Knowing full well how much Yankees GM Brian Cashman loves his prospects, there is almost zero chance that a trade could ever be consummated between the two clubs.

    Mike,

Is there anyway we can get a foul language sensor on this site? IMO, comments like this moron made hurt the credibility of what is an excellent site.

I just bleeped him – I do have a sensor, but these guys know how to get around it, mainly its the usual curse words. Will see if I could put more words into it and clean it up more

    Thanks for the heads up

I wonder what the guy said? Do I really want to know?

Maybe it won’t be Timmy, but they need a bat and have a 120 mil in commitments (BR) next year (100M 3 year average). Unless they plan on doing nothing or exploding payroll into the 140-150 range, something has to give.

Sorry guys for the comments, I added him to the moderation queue. Sometimes its hard to keep these kind of posters out. I am aware of some of the foul language and am making every attempt to curtail it.
