Ducks Fall Short in Game 4, York Revolution Repeat as Champs

By Mike Silva ~ October 2nd, 2011. Filed under: Independent Baseball.

The York Revolution won their second consecutive Atlantic League Championship with a 6-3 victory over the Long Island Ducks in Game 4 of the series.

Ducks ace Mike Loree carried a 2-1 lead through six innings, but the Ducks bullpen couldn’t hold on to it.

York would pull even in the seventh inning on a run-scoring double play ball hit by Liu Rodriguez. They would take the lead for good in the eighth with four runs, highlighted by RBI singles from Chris Nowak and Jose Herrera, a bases loaded walk to Val Majewski and a sac fly from Rodriguez.

Long Island would score a run in the ninth, but would fall short.

Michael Nix got the win, tossing one and two-thirds scoreless innings of relief, while Jon Hunton got the loss, allowing four runs on two hits and two walks in relief.

It was still a successful season for the Ducks. They led the Atlantic League with a 78-47 record overall during the regular season and won both halves in the Liberty Division for the first time in franchise history under first year manager Kevin Baez. In addition, this was their first trip back to the Atlantic League Championship Series since 2004. The Ducks also led the league in attendance for the 12th consecutive season, welcoming their five millionth fan and 600th sellout in the process.

York is the second team in the history of the league to repeat. The other is the Somerset Patriots, who accomplished the feat in 2008 and 2009.

This will conclude our independent league coverage for 2011.

Man, they had such a good season too. The Ducks never even faced York’s ace pitcher either. Bummer.
