King Henry, HBP, Shrute’s Offspring Likes Yankees, Pretzels

I love mascots at the ballpark. Mr. Met is cool, and even the Philly Phanatic has some of his funny moments. It’s really meant for the kids, who like silly characters that interact with them. If you go to any Minor League ballpark there are tons of fun mascots. There is even a bat dog in Trenton. I do, however, wish the Cyclones would do something with the very annoying King Henry.

I was at the Cyclones/Aberdeen game last night (It was Angel Pagan Bobble Head Night). Somehow, I bought tickets online the last minute and was able to sit behind home plate (Section 3, Row B). Despite the good view, I had to spend a great deal of time next to Cyclones mascot King Henry. He yelled, screamed, danced, and generally acted like a fool. The kids seemed to prefer Sandy the Seagull, not this adult dressed in a fake king’s costume. What is King Henry’s purpose? How does he connect with the Brooklyn Cyclones? Other than giving me a headache, it doesn’t seem to be much. Any chance we can be King Henry free going forward?

Am I missing something here?

Good job by home plate umpire Bob Davidson, who did not award Brewers outfielder Nyjer Morgan first base after getting hit by a pitch. I see too many instances where players step into pitches because they have all sorts of armor available to them. It’s a cheap way to get on base, but it shouldn’t be a surprise since Morgan is a notorious punk.

Rainn Wilson aka Dwight Shrute from “The Office.” announced yesterday his six year old son has decided to become a Yankees fan. Apparently, the kid is now available to anyone who is interested. During the 2008 World Series, Shrute was on the list of “famous Phillies fans” compiled by the St. Petersburg Times.

By the way, the best ballpark pretzel is the one at MCU Park in Brooklyn. I don’t know if it’s because I buy it at the Kosher Deli stand, or just their supplier, but it’s not even up for debate.
