Morning Digest: Esiason Not Thrilled Over Play Girl

Bob’s Blitz reported earlier this week that WFAN morning host Craig Carton was prepared to pose for Play Girl Magazine. A source close to the situation told me a day later that Play Girl was more interested in Carton’s sidekick Boomer Esiason, but didn’t believe the former Jets quarterback would agree. Apparently, it was a reader that suggested getting Esiason in the magazine.

Now I have been told this situation has caused a mini feud between the two. Esiason feels that Play Girl is not paying enough, and that Bob’s Blitz sourcing the story forced an appearance by the magazine on the show. Boomer would have preferred to keep this story quiet in case his needs couldn’t be met. In short, Esiason is not happy over this getting out in the public.

Of course, CBS and Play Girl love all the buzz generated on the web by this story. PlayGirl saw its traffic increase on their website for the first time in six months.

Meanwhile, Carton is having Al Dukes collect old editions of the magazine to compare layouts.

Wouldn’t it be ironic if this magazine spread caused enough of a stir to drive the “squeaky clean” Esiason over the edge? The Morning Show could be broken up over what amounts to a publicity stunt.

    has anything become of the fact that Carton had Sydney on the phone to discuss this yesterday? I turned it off at that point. Supposed she came on without Boomer knowing….

    If anyone else was involved, I’d say it was a set up radio bit, but with Carton’s track record when it comes to ambushing people on air it would not surprise me if he was so classless as to do the same to his partner.

    I used to see Boomer all the time at our gym. He loved to hold court naked in the locker room. Even I was impressed. He should be in Playgirl. He exceeds the “requirements” for the gig.
