Mets May Draft Jungmann or Bradley

By Mike Silva ~ June 2nd, 2011. Filed under: MLB Draft Coverage.

Frank Piliere of Fox Sports Scout.com believes the Mets will take a pitcher with the 13th pick of the draft this coming Monday. He confidently says it will come down to University of Texas RHP Taylor Jungmann or Georgia Tech’s LHP Jed Bradley.

Pro Draft Central had this to say about Jungmann:

On the mound, the 6-foot-6, 200-pound Jungmann tops out at 96-97-mph with his fastball. He compliments that above-average pitch with a decent slider that has the potential to be above-average and an ever-improving changeup that he’ll have to focus on throwing more in 2011. He also mixes in a curveball which looks like it could have some potential if he threw it more.

PDC did go on to say that Jungmann’s unorthodox mechanics give scouts reason to fear he could become one of the biggest busts as a pro. His ability to command his fastball is also in question.

John Klima of Baseball Beginnings wrote about Jed Bradley. He throws a fastball that tops out at 93mph, along with a changeup and slider. Klima wrote in March that he could see Bradley possibly as a #1 starter in the big leagues.

I don’t know much about these kids so it’s hard for me to give much of an opinion. I do know the Mets need pitching so I am a proponent of the team selecting some sort of college arm with the thirteenth pick.

The question all Mets fans (like myself) should be asking is not who the Mets will draft but who they can afford to draft and sign. Will it be the best player who is represented by a Scott Boras or will it be a player who will sign for what the Mets will give offer. Since the Moneyball crowd is in charge my fear is of a Jeremy Brown type signing.

Also curious Mike if you would happen to know who Mr.Jungmann’s agent (ahem NCAA rules: I meant adviser) is?
