Vote: Oliver Perez in Pinstripes?

By Mike Silva ~ March 21st, 2011. Filed under: New York Yankees, Polls.

The Yankees are clearly looking for pitching depth.

Yesterday, I was told of reports from Arizona the Yanks had two scouts to watch Dave Bush pitch. Today there are reports they are looking into Oliver Perez who was released by the Mets this morning. Despite the fact their system is loaded with young arms it doesn’t hurt to have veterans at Triple-A to fill in when necessary. Typically you need about eight starters to get through a 162 game season.

Why not bring in Oliver Perez? The Yankees would be just on the hook for the minimum. I still think he will not turn things around until he rediscovers his velocity, which former Mets pitching coach Rick Peterson talked about with Ed Randall of WFAN.

Who knows, pinstripes have a way of bringing out the best in players. If Perez turns things around with the Yankees it would be one of the best baseball stories we have seen around here in a while.

So Yankees fans tell me your thoughts. Do you want to take a shot on Ollie?

Mike, I want the Yankees to sign him — simply to inflict the same pain on them that Ollie inflicted on us these last 2+ years.

Seriously, someone will take a flyer on him ….might as well be the Yankees. What I find interesting is that there will not be any team who gives him a major league rsoter spot, so he will need to go to the minors and earn his way to a major league roster — the very thing he refused to do as a Met.

Now his survival depends on it ….

I am glad he’s gone … Castillo too. It’s great having a leadership team that knows what they are doing …. I am not confident about 2011, but I do think the future is getting brighter.

    Talk with you soon.

The last thing the Yankees need is another head case, who also happens to have lost his physical capabilities.

I’m in favor of Perez in Yankee pinstripes – as a batting practice pitcher!
