Watch: Incarcerated Bob vs. Jon Heyman

By Mike Silva ~ December 14th, 2010. Filed under: Mike Silva.

The most hysterical thing about social media is how anyone can become a media star. Those who are users of Twitter know about a man named Incarcerated Bob, a man who became famous for calling the “Boomer & Carton” show on WFAN. He got his nickname for spending nine months in an upstate correctional facility after beating up a Patriots fan after the Giants Super Bowl victory in 2008.

The last few months Incarcerated Bob has been “tweeting” rumors about Lebron James, Joe Girardi, Sandy Alderson, and now Cliff Lee. Bob claims a 75% accuracy rate, but something tells me that it might be a bit overstated. To be fair he did seem to have it right on the Cubs interest in Matt Garza, and their signing of Carlos Pena, but the timing of his rumor has always been in question as to whether it was his content.

Bob was so sure of his “sources” he claimed Lee was headed to Texas late last night. To his credit, he did believe Lee wasn’t going to the Yankees, but that pessimism was shared by many throughout the industry. Bob’s boastful tweets have angered many, leading to the ultimate line by Sports Illustrated’s Jon Heyman: “how does Bob have so many sources if he is only allowed one call?” Great line.

This morning on WFAN’s Boomer and Carton, Bob addressed his Lee to Texas rumor, and his rift with Heyman. Watch his response below.

The drama that develops during these big free agent negotiations is almost as fun, if not more, than the games.

I just want to make sure I understand this….

WFAN’s policy is not to give credibility to bloggers but it has no problem with gimmick guys from Twitter?

    Something is amiss there.

Up next on the FAN…Fake Mike Francessa interviews Girardi’s Binder!

“he did believe Lee wasn’t going to the Yankees, but that pessimism was shared by many throughout the industry.”

Lee not going to the Yankees did not universally evoke pessimism. Many folks were optimistic about it!

Not so much the last few days

Perhaps I wasn’t clear in my last post. I meant to say that not everyone wanted Lee to sign with the Yankees, so to some, the idea of him not signing with the Yankees was a source of optimism, not pessimism.

WFAN has reached a new low. Bobby does his usual once he gets it wrong he tries to retract what he has said. Shame the guy can’t use his real given name.
