Swisher Excels Against the Best

By Mike Silva ~ July 8th, 2010. Filed under: Mike Silva, New York Yankees.

Found this to be an interesting stat via Mark Simon of ESPN NY regarding Nick Swisher versus some of the best pitchers in baseball:

Against those with ERAs of 3.5 or below, Swisher is hitting .317 with five home runs in 82 at-bats. That’s pretty good.

Consider this: That’s 70 points higher than what Robinson Cano is hitting against pitchers of that performance level, 85 points better than Derek Jeter, 89 points better than Alex Rodriguez, and 133 points better than Mark Teixeira.

When you break down his stats versus Cliff Lee, Roy Halladay, and Jon Lester he is 6 for 11 with 4 homers! Small sample size of course.

Interesting how on a team of stars like A-Rod, Jeter, and Teixeira the best offensive contributors this year have been Robinson Cano, Nick Swisher, and Brett Gardner.
