Rumblings: Delgado’s Agent Contacts Yanks

By Frank Russo ~ May 20th, 2010. Filed under: New York Yankees, Rumor Mill.

My main Yankee source informed me last night that Carlos Delgado’s agent recently reached out to the Yankees to gauge their interest. Delgado has been out a year due to two hip surgeries and hasn’t played since last May. Reports indicate he has started to swing a bat and could return soon. It is unclear whether the Yankees have any interest.

If they were to sign Delgado he would be used primarily as a DH and backup first baseman. With Nick Johnson out indefinitely it wouldn’t be the worst move to bring Delgado on, of course assuming he is healthy. The short right field porch at Yankee Stadium would agree very well with him.

It wasn’t like Delgado was slowing down before his injury as he hit .298 with four homers and 23 RBI in 26 games with the Mets in 2009.
