Joba Out of Rotation Mix

By Mike Silva ~ March 21st, 2010. Filed under: Mike Silva, New York Yankees.

I thought something was fishy about Chamberlain pitching in the intrasquad game tomorrow, but earlier tonight on Twitter Jon Heyman said that Joba “is out of the Yanks rotation derby.” Does this mean Phil Hughes has won the competition or is this down to Aceves and Hughes?

Whatever the case Joba appears headed back to the bullpen where he belongs. Perhaps this will put an end to talk of Joba as a starting pitcher in the big leagues.

He’s not out of the mix yet.

So the rain out today made this decision?

Joba was scheduled to start against the Phils tomorrow and Hughes was set to pitch the latter 3 innings today.

Heyman is speculating again and he’s often wrong when he does that.

Joba pitched five innings today and did okay. The basis of this tweet makes no sense. Zach Grienke today is throwing in a minor league game. Does that mean Grienke is destined for Triple A? I think we all know the answer to that. Heyman is a big advocate of Joba in the pen and sometimes it appears that subjectivity gets in the way of his reporting.
