Sticky: Vote in NYBD Hall of Fame Committee

By Mike Silva ~ December 29th, 2009. Filed under: Hall of Fame, Polls.

Just like every other website (i.e. Dugout Central, BBTF, etc.) I want to have a Hall of Fame vote. The fast and easy way we are going to do this is to allow the listeners and readers to cast their vote. Here are the rules:

1) Poll will be open from today till next Wed at midnight.

2) Everyone gets one vote.

Not very scientific, but I want to see the general consensus of the fans. This will be a sticky to the top of the site during the voting process.

I voted for Pete Rose and Mark McGwire. Funny how Robbie Alomar spat on the face of an umpire and his name is at the top of the list, but McGwire wronged the game in another way and had a way better career by the numbers and is toward the middle of this list. Away with integrity – let’s put the best and most famous players to the place they belong. Maybe if we get McGwire to give an acceptance speech we can also get a statement of regret.

People can “vote” for their choice. But — be aware — people who vote for Alomar, McGwire, or Rose are going to end up in the deepest circle of HELL — right next to those guys.

So choose. But in choosing, think about avoiding Eternal Punishment for the price of tapping a radio button on a web site!

It doesn’t mean anything, but please everybody show how much Raines deserves to be in the HOF. His numbers make him much more deserving than Mattingly at the least who gets tons of love around here (understandably so).

Write in vote for Buck O’Neil. I would never vote for anyone who lacked respect for the game (read: Steroids). O’Neil affected the game in a way that few ever do. The fact that he is not in the Hall is a sin.

When I view the current results, I see the vote percentages for all players add up to 100%. So there is only one player per ballot? That’s not how a traditional Hall of Fame ballot works. Real HOF voters can vote for up to 10, and a player must be voted for on 75% of the ballots to be inducted. Adding up the percentages for all players adds up to way more than 100% because most voters vote for more than one player.

You are correct. I thought polldaddy was going to give me the results of home many total voters there were. Unfortunately that did not happen.

Essentially, if you look at the top line (# of Alomar Votes), about 90% of those who voted I would assume put Alomar in, I can use that as a numerator and get a good idea of where the thoughts process was for the voters. Next year we will implement a better system, I didn’t realize that polldaddy charges for such information.
