Report: Yanks May Not Be Interested In Holliday Season

By Frank Russo ~ October 22nd, 2009. Filed under: Rumor Mill.

Our main Yankees source down it Tampa informed us last night that, at this time,  Yankees management has no interest in getting involved in the Matt Holliday sweepstakes. “It’s way too early,” our source told us. “Brian (Cashman) has a lot of decisions to make, especially with Matsui and Damon.”I don’t care how bad the kid wants to play for the Yanks, Scott (Boras) will be asking for the moon and they’re not going to break the bank for him. Things could change though. If he falls into their lap, I’m sure they’ll go for it.”

Last winter, on one of the Hot Stove shows, I told Mike Silva that Holliday had ask his agent to help him get traded over to the Yankees. Of course, Colorado wanted no part of it, and instead traded him to Oakland, who eventually traded him to St. Louis. Holliday now has the advantage of being a free agent and can pick and choose where he wants to go. The problem is, the one place he wants to go, the Bronx, may not be as interested in him as he is in them.

Our source also told us the following. “They are going to go after a starting pitcher, either through free agency or trade. It won’t surprise me if they make a big time run at Roy Halladay.”

Frank, can we actually take your rumor writing seriously? You’ve been wrong about nearly every rumor I can remember you discussing. At one point, you claimed the Yankees were interested in trading for Aaron Rowand—not true. You also claimed that there could be a Carlos Beltran for Robinson Cano swap—not true. You even said the Pirates would be willing to trade Nick Swisher and Brett Gardner for Nate McLouth—not true. Why should we believe you now?

I hope this is true because I don’t want Holliday anyways. That’s a really bad signing waiting to happen.

    Chris,

To be fair with Frank. The rumor mill is a tough because things happen very fast. I assure you Frank isn’t here to play with your minds and make these things up. There’s alot more trade discussion than actual trades; how do you think they come to aggreements. Also, myself or Mike wouldn’t although Frank to make up anything and post it on this site under our name. All the information you receive here comes from valid sources centered around opinion. The Beltran/Cano swap your referencing is completely misunderstood by you and you obviously didn’t listen to the dialogue with that. Frank merely posed an idea to his source about what it would take to get Beltran in the Bronx. Cano was suggested as a suitable player that any deal like would take to make happen. In no way was that spoken about by the Mets or Yankees but merely what would it take to get Beltran to the Yankees. From there it should of been discussion as to different ideas of how these two teams could orchestrate a trade that makes sense on both sides. However, you guys hear something and instantly get emotional, which you make it gospel in your own mind. We exchange different ideas here to give the fans a different perspective. Frank has good information and he will continue to give you good information. Let’s be smart about this, we verify everything that goes up on this site from the smallest bit of information to the largest story. This isn’t the Post and Daily News where we throw stuff out there to fill space.

Perfect example to show my point go over to Metsblog

    http://www.metsblog.com/2009/10/22/buzz-multiple-teams-like-milton-bradley

    - Basically, we know that Milton Bradley is being actively shopped this winter to be it mildly. Matt reads that the Mets are on a last with several teams calling about Bradley. That’s all it says that the Mets are going to call the Cubs to talk about him. Already, in some’s mind the Mets just made the trade for Bradley, he’s already in the lineup for opening day, and people are hiding under the covers. Prime example of somebody taking a rumor and making it out to be more than it really is.
