Mets, Tampa, Cleveland 3 Way Deal?

By Mike Silva ~ July 30th, 2009. Filed under: Rumor Mill.

Joe just updated me with an interesting rumor.

We are hearing dialogue about the Mets/Rays/ and Indians talking about a three way deal. In this scenario Victor Martinez would go to Tampa and not New York. As of now we do not know who the Mets would receive in this scenario.

One of the things that both Joe and I discussed, and this is pure speculation not a rumor, is that it could involve Scott Kazmir. We have heard the Rays shopping Kazmir to Anaheim earlier in the week. Chris spoke to someone down in Tampa who indicated that the Rays are a bit disappointed in Kazmir this year. They believe he may never be the top of the rotation starter that looked to be in the making after his great 2007 season. There is also his contract, which runs through 2011 (2012 option), that would need to be moved in order to bring V-Mart to Tampa.

I am a bit concerned about acquiring Kazmir if it involved major prospects. The reasons why he was traded, health and stamina, have proven to be true thus far.

Listen to tonight’s show where we talk about the latest rumors. Jim Duquette was our headline guest.

sounds interesting… would love to get kazmir .. gives mets #2 starter, despite his terrible year hes been OK in june and july. but i would like to get a bat under contract for next year to go with him – like crawford or pena.

It Time to make some trade and up grade this team, but Holt it in the Mets plan. I think we really have good young pitchers, but we dont call up the young player in the perfect time. For me Gee and Kunz it in the Bullpen spot and not Redding, Stoker and Elmer D.
We need to change the way to work with te youngers players. If you dont call all the youngers that have a great year in AA and AAA. You never gone see what they have for that team. I think F. Matinez it not the top prospect and it not in the Mets Plan.
This time it perfect to trade Castillo, Feliciano, Schnaider and F. Martinez. List of player like the Mets need to See at this time.
    1. Alex Rios – Blue Jays
    2. Haren – Arizona
    3. Upton – Arizona
    4. John Danks – White Sox
    5. Fausto Carmona – Indians Down him to AAA
    6. Chris Davis – Texas Down him to AAA

Call Up Thole, Holt, Mejias,Sham, Kunz, Malo and IKE.
I Hope today Minaya dont Sleep because we dont have tomorrow….
WE NEED A TRADE BUT THE PERFECT TRADE.

Ajsosa, I like your enthusiasm but there is no way the Diamondbacks are trading Haren or Upton, that’s wishful thinking at its best. Haren is the best pitcher in the NL this year and, with Webb’s future in question, Haren will be on that team for the duration of his contract. Same with Upton. He’s young, under contract and a five tool player.

Rios, however, is a different story. He’s grossly overpaid and the Jays would move him if the price were right.

This 3 way possibility is intriuging. I can see V-Mart going to the Rays with Kazmir and Crawford going to the Mets and F-Mart, Niese and Parnell to the Indians. I think there would need to be a few more prospects being moved between the teams, but these would be the main players to start with. As a Met fan, I could live with that. What do you think?

  5. Mike

yeah i could live that.. we are getting some GOOD talent back…EVERYONE has see that..and not jump on “oh thats too much”

    Lou W-
Hit it right on. I thought the trade talk would look just like that. If Im the mets, I try to keep parnell out of it. its tough to find a kid with his level of stuff.

  7. Mike

really..parnall hasn’t been good lately…hes turning into heilman…lets up ALOT of runs bro..

i think he would be good somewhere else..

If the METS do not make a move by tomorrow, Omar is finished.
He knows that he has to bring a big name back to this team to get it back on track.
How can the Phillies get Carlos Lee for almost nothing?
Why are the Indians so desperate to trade everyone?
Can the Mets get back Joe Smith, Endy Chavez, Aaron Heilman and Kazimir in less than 12 hours?
I would love to the see the METS get Crawford and Kaz. In the off season, they would need to move BELTRAN for pitching. Keep Reyes and get rid of DELGADO.
This is why the METS want VMART.
VMART plus KROD plus FMART plus …
    You get the idea.

Mike, I’m going to assume you’re being sarcastic and laugh at it in appreciation. Considering he’s given up 2 earned runs in his last 13 appearances, has struck out 8 and given up 8 hits, I know you can’t be serious about the ‘next Heilman’ quote.
Any deal for Crawford and Kazmir has to be seriously considered, I think. Both are young, 27 and 25 respectively, and even though Kazmir is struggling this year, the rap on him concerns his work ethic, not his talent. And while many people say you can’t teach work ethic, that’s false. You can’t measure the effect of change, and bringing Kazmir back to his roots may trigger something. Then again, it could be a bust.
But Crawford is the main item in this deal, if there is any truth at all to these rumors. News out of Mets’ camp is Beltran is going to push himself as far as he can but won’t be at 100% this year, and surgery is a possibility at the end of the season. He may not be able to play CF again this year. That’s where Crawford comes in. He’s an established CFer who steals a ton of bases (48), has a bit of pop (10 HRs), has an impressive OBP (.373), and can drive in some runs (45 RBI). Pagan has been impressive, but acquiring Crawford would push Pagan to LF. Possible platoon with Beltran in left if he returns?
Of course all this is speculation. But it sure is fun to speculate.
    Imagine……
    1. Reyes
    2. Crawford
    3. Wright
    4. Delgado
    5. Beltran
    6. Franceour
    7. Schneider
    8. Castillo
Or some similar combination. It’s fun to dream.

Jay, i kno Parnall is young but..ah he scares me when he pitches….all he throws is fastball/slider that is straight and ….they can hit that…serious Jay are we watching the same game?

as much you like Parnall…hes not looking good on the Mets..he’s poorly when the game is close..i rather see Stokes or green pitch then him lol thats how bad it is..Stokes can match that..throws 96+ and he also pitches good when the game is close and so does green..

When I started hearing the mets mixed with words like Cleveland, Tampa and Kazmir, I too thought it would be a great time to get Crawford and Kaz.

The more I think about it, however, I’m not sure that would be the best deal for our team. Instead, I would propose a different theory.

Complete a three-way trade with the mets receiving Kazmir, and whomever else not playing LF. This would save some of our better prospects. Then, approach Toronto and lowball Riccardi for Rios. I’m sure he’ll be anxious to lose the salary and save cash for Doc, and we can get a young potential five-tool player on the cheap. Best yet, if Beltran misses significant time next year, we have our choice of Pagan or Rios to be a starting CF.

also Jay, Parnall puts alot of guys on base…which then leads into runs…
