Mets and John Grabow?

By Mike Silva ~ July 29th, 2009. Filed under: Rumor Mill.

Jon Heyman reported on WFAN that the Mets were looking for a left handed reliever to lesson Pedro Feliciano’s workload. Our very own Joe Demayo did some poking around and there are rumors that indeed Omar Minaya and company are interested in the Pirates lefty.

This may be a tough one to pull off considering that we hear the Yankees are also in on Grabow, and that Pittsburgh wants minor leaguers with upside. Can the Mets afford to give them that? If so, the Yankees could definitely trump them.

The Mets dropped the ball, in my opinion, by not acquiring this type of reliever during the offseason via free agency. In a division with the Phillies it’s almost incomprehensible. The problem with Grabow is that lefties are hitting .270 against him for his career. Can’t hurt depending on what the Pirates are asking.

Will be interesting to see how this develops.
