Frenchy’s Debut, Groundhog Day, Shelley Duncan Retires

- Remember the movie “Groundhog Day”? The Yankees seem to be living that now in multiple fronts. First, they see the same bad performance every five days when Joba pitches. They also get treated to a myriad of bromides from Joba, and excuses from coaches and fans. You then have the bizarre run the Angels continue to have against the Yankees. Regardless who puts that Anaheim uniform on, they seem to find a way to win against the Yankees. I thought I was watching a rerun of Friday’s game. Somewhere Bill Murray is smiling.

- Jeff Francoeur, unlike Mets fans, is very excited that he is in New York. Wonder if the anti- Jeff Francoeur crowd will ask the Mets to give back the 2 run RBI from the first inning.

- Shelley Duncan is retiring from twitter and Barry Zito cancelled his account. I have a feeling other athletes and celebrities might start going that route as well.

- Don’t forget that the Futures Game will be played at 2pm. You can get a glimpse of Wilmer Flores, Jesus Montero, Manuel Banuelos, and Jenrry Mejia.

- A couple of milestones as yesterday as well. Alex Rodriguez passed Rafael Palmeiro on the all time home run list (insert steroid joke) and Johan Santana became the all time wins leader from Venezuela as he passed Freddy Garcia.

- I knew Eric Hinske would find a baseball renaissance with the Yankees. Happens all the time with players like him (see Glenallen Hill, Jose Vizcaino, Luis Sojo, Mariano Duncan, etc.). Great move by Brian Cashman.

- What a great weapon Dusty Baker has with Micah Owings. It’s great to have that extra batter from a pitcher that can legitimately hit. Too bad he can’t pitch.

  1. Paul Catalano

Good call on the Hinske resurgence. You’re right. Players like him do surge once they step into the “role player” position on the Yankees.
