Petition for Manny Ramirez

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

The good folks over at NYFS have started up a petition for the Mets to make a run at Manny Ramirez. Though the impact could be minimal, I figured it was definitely worth posting. If you are a Met fan and are interested in putting your signature on the petition, then click the link below. You [...]

New Year’s Day NYBD Radio Marathon

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

As we close up for 2008 we wanted to let you know about how we will celebrate 2009: With some of our “lost” alumni reports. NY Baseball Digest has grown since its inception in March of 2007. Some of that growth involved partnerships with various sites. During this time there are some shows we aired [...]

SNY Doesn’t Fail to Disappoint

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

I decided to spend my New Years Eve morning doing the little stuff around the house: laundry, residual clean up after Christmas, playing with my dog in the snow. After a couple of hours of this, I decided to make some waffles and watch TV. I did my usual channel surfing to see if there [...]

January: The Month of Manny

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

Now that we are hours from 2009, you can start to put the holiday’s behind and move on with life. A short weekend respite will lead to a new beginning, as fans of this site head back to their places of work. I am sure there will be plenty to talk about in the world. [...]

Mets offer 3 year deal to Derek Lowe

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

According to Jack Curry of the NY Times, the Mets have offered free agent RHP Derek Lowe a 3 year deal worth $36 million dollars. A nice starting offer, and a good launching pad to anything more. I can’t imagine Lowe nets anything above $14 million per season. More on this as it develops.

Could Burnett Hurt the Overall Health of the Starting Rotation?

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

Yesterday, Peter Abraham discussed his belief that the Yankees rotation still lacks depth. Because of this, he believes that it’s necessary to bring in another arm like an Andy Pettitte. This goes against what I wrote last week, but it did get me thinking. According to Pete’s posts, he believes the Yankees rotation needs to [...]

Rumor Mill: 12/30

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

There’s pretty much nothing to the Andruw Jones to the Mets rumors. It would be a “complete shock” if anything happened there. Despite it appearing to be as perfect a fit there is to have Manny Ramirez roaming left field, a source with knowledge of the Mets thinking still says the Wilpon’s will not go [...]

Solution is Not Salary Cap but Payroll Investment

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

Houston Chronicle journalist Richard Justice probably doesn’t read NY Baseball Digest, but he certainly is on the same page with me when it comes to a salary cap. Yesterday, at his blog SportsJustice, he discusses why a salary cap would be bad for baseball. He also gives Houston Owner Drayton McClane a “careful what you [...]

Minaya Working Magic…until Andruw Jones?

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

I have been a tremendous advocate that Omar Minaya has destroyed the Mets. That he has traded away numerous young players, and replaced them with broken down, band-aids to win now. And while I still believe that you need a balance of veterans, All Stars, and young players, I give “kudos” to the crafty Mets [...]

Steinbrenner Money and Cashman’s Brain a Pleasant Combo for the Yanks

Monday, December 29th, 2008

I’ve had a rather enjoyable time this past week reading all the fatalistic “The Yankees are taking over the world” articles that seem to be reproducing themselves like tribbles all over the internet. The fear inherent in these essays is palpable. Basically, the fans of the other 29 teams in baseball are soiling their khakis. [...]

Mets in Talks For Andruw Jones

Monday, December 29th, 2008

ESPN’s Buster Olney cites sources that state the Mets and Dodgers have talked about a deal involving Andruw Jones. Jones, who turns 32 next spring, hit .158 with 76 strikeouts in 209 at-bats for the Dodgers in 2008. It appears that he is owed about $22 million (this includes signing bonus) as part of the [...]

Why Mark Teixeira Should Be the New York Yankees Cleanup Hitter for 2009

Monday, December 29th, 2008

The signing of Mark Teixeira considerably boosted the Yankee offense, and their infield defense, too. While his glove will save a few throwing errors from the left side of the infield, the signing was to primarily aid an offense that scored 179 fewer runs in 2008 than in 2007. Many stories and comments have been written [...]

From Genius to Unemployed

Monday, December 29th, 2008

The firing of Eric Mangini from the Jets today has nothing to do with the local baseball managers. It does provide a lesson that one should take notice: Today’s genius is one step away from being on tomorrow’s unemployment line. It was less than two years ago that Eric Mangini was the toast of the [...]
